Average Wedding Costs to help you budget!

As promised in our previous blog, we’re going to run through the average costs of weddings to help you prepare a budget for your upcoming big day.

Firstly, the data quoted is from the Hitched National Wedding survey 2022. So, be prepared that prices have increased in 2023 and beyond. Hitched surveyed 2400 couples who got married in 2022 for their ACTUAL wedding costs, so this will give you a good starting place – but we’d recommend adding at least 5% to each to account for price increases.

Secondly, this is UK based – so not for weddings abroad. Its national, so allow for regional variations (sorry London – you will pay more).

So lets start; the average cost of a wedding in 2022 was £18,400. Your basic requirements are venue(s), catering, clothing, cake, florals & decor, entertainment, stationery, and photographer/videographer. We’ll break down the average cost of each of these to help you out.

The average number of guests was 81 – as always, your guest lists will be a major factor for determining how much you will spend on your wedding. Think carefully – although it would be amazing to have everyone you’ve ever met join your day, this will increase the costs.

43% of couples went over their budget. Which is totally understandable as its really hard to know where to begin with setting a budget for something you’ve never done before, and given it usually take between 12-24 months to plan a wedding, pricing will change in that time.
